Easy Lazy Tiramisu (No-Bake Coffee Biscuit Dessert)

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This has been my go-to, super-quick, easy dessert ever since I was a kid, when finding fancy ingredients to make traditional tiramisu was hard and, honestly, expensive. So if you love tiramisu but want something quicker, easier, and made with simple ingredients, this lazy tiramisu is about to become your go-to dessert. This no-bake coffee biscuit dessert uses everyday ingredients like whipping cream, condensed milk, and digestive biscuits to create a rich, creamy, and perfectly layered treat.

Unlike traditional tiramisu, this version skips mascarpone and eggs, making it a budget-friendly tiramisu alternative that still delivers that classic coffee-and-cream flavor. The biscuits are lightly soaked in hot coffee, then layered with a soft, flowy cream mixture that sets beautifully in the fridge.

Whether you’re making a quick dessert for guests or just craving something sweet, this easy no-bake tiramisu recipe is simple, forgiving, and absolutely delicious.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • No baking required – perfect for beginners
  • Uses simple, affordable ingredients
  • A great tiramisu without mascarpone or eggs
  • Perfect make-ahead dessert
  • Soft, creamy texture with rich coffee flavor

Key Tips for the Perfect Lazy Tiramisu

1. Don’t Over-Soak the Biscuits

Dip the biscuits in hot (not boiling) coffee for just a few seconds. They should be well-soaked but still hold their shape. If they become too soft, they’ll fall apart while layering. If it’s too hard, the texture won’t be good while eating. If you’re using a brand where the biscuits are thicker than digestive biscuits, then you can soak them for a bit more and if you’re using an extremely delicate brand then warm coffee and just a second in the coffee should be fine

2. Keep the Cream Slightly Runny

Whip the cream and condensed milk until just before soft peaks. A slightly flowy consistency helps the biscuits absorb the mixture and creates that signature soft layered dessert texture.

3. Use Strong Coffee

A bold coffee flavor balances the sweetness of the condensed milk and cream, giving you that classic coffee dessert taste.

4. Chill Overnight for Best Results

While 5–6 hours works, chilling overnight gives the dessert time to fully set and develop flavor – just like a classic icebox cake.

What Makes This Different from Traditional Tiramisu?

This recipe is often called a lazy tiramisu because it simplifies the classic Italian dessert:

  • No mascarpone cheese
  • No eggs
  • No baking or complicated steps
  • Uses digestive biscuits instead of ladyfingers

It’s essentially a quick tiramisu recipe that delivers similar flavors with much less effort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! This is actually a perfect make-ahead dessert. Prepare it the night before for the best texture and flavor.

Can I use other biscuits?

Absolutely. While normal digestive biscuits work great, you can also use other basic buscuits, graham crackers, or ladyfingers for a more traditional feel. Just keep in mind the soaking time, depending on the thickness and texture of the biscuits.

How long should I soak the biscuits?

Only a few seconds. The goal is to make them moist but still structured, not soggy or falling apart.

Can I make it less sweet?

You can reduce the condensed milk slightly or add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.

How long does it last in the fridge?

It stays fresh for up to 3 days when covered and refrigerated.

A soft, creamy no-bake dessert made with coffee-soaked biscuits layered with a light whipped cream and condensed milk mixture. This easy “lazy tiramisu” melts in your mouth and requires no eggs or mascarpone.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml whipping cream (35-40% fat)

  • 400 g condensed milk (1 can)

  • 100 ml strong brewed coffee (hot, but not boiling)

  • 2 pack (250-300g) plain biscuits or digestive biscuits

  • Cocoa powder (for dusting)

Directions

  • In a large bowl, whip the whipping cream and condensed milk together until slightly thick but still flowy – just before soft peaks. The mixture should remain a bit runny so it soaks into the biscuits well.
  • Pour hot (not boiling) strong coffee into a shallow bowl and prepare your serving dish.
  • Dip each biscuit into the hot coffee for a few seconds, then arrange in a single layer in the dish. The biscuits should be well-soaked but still hold their shape – they should not be too soft or falling apart. Break pieces if needed to fill gaps.
  • Pour 2–3 ladles of the cream mixture over the biscuit layer, spreading evenly (about 3 cm thick).
  • Repeat layering soaked biscuits and cream until you reach the top, finishing with a cream layer.
  • Cover with cling wrap and refrigerate for at least 5–6 hours, preferably overnight, until fully set.
  • Before serving, dust generously with cocoa powder. Slice or scoop and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Soaking the biscuits well is key to a soft, pudding-like texture.
  • Use hot coffee (not boiling) for better absorption and flavor.
  • Chill overnight for the best structure and taste.
